We are seeking a Packing Area Manager to lead and manage our Packing Department. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that production targets are met, high-quality products are delivered on time, and safety and operational standards are upheld. As a key leader, you will guide your team, instil best practices, and drive continuous improvement to create a world-class food manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables
• Leadership & Guidance: Lead the packing operation to achieve budget targets, ensuring high-quality production that meets customer demand. Provide guidance, support, and leadership to direct reports, helping them achieve the skills and knowledge necessary for success in a world-class manufacturing site.
• Labour Management: Develop and implement a robust labour management plan to ensure adequate staffing for production.
• Production Performance: Implement and oversee detailed work procedures to optimize production performance and achieve operational targets.
• Health & Safety: Maintain full responsibility for ensuring Health and Safety protocols are in place and strictly followed by all staff in the department.

Key Duties
• Team Supervision & Development: Supervise, train, and allocate workloads to teams. Promote a “right first time every time” culture through continuous improvement, monitoring performance, and adjusting workloads as needed.
• Production Scheduling: Use recognized methods and processes to develop and manage production schedules, ensuring efficient use of labour and equipment. Address any operational issues proactively.
• Pre-start & Line Checks: Oversee pre-start checks, line testing, and post-production clean downs to ensure smooth daily start ups.
• Technical Compliance & Food Safety: Collaborate with the Technical department to ensure compliance with food safety regulations, HACCP controls, and all technical recording systems.
• Health & Safety Management: Ensure all staff adhere to Safety Systems of Work (SSOW) and ensure that all training and risk assessments are up to date.
• Performance Monitoring & Communication: Conduct regular team meetings to communicate department performance, engage in problem-solving, and motivate the team. Provide relevant information to supervisors and team members to ensure everyone is aware of their responsibilities.
• Operational Efficiency: Monitor performance through management control systems to reduce downtime, waste, and labour costs. Constantly review and improve processes to drive continuous improvement.
• Development & Training: Identify development needs through appraisals and implement tailored training plans to upskill the team.
• Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with Departmental Managers, Supervisors, and Senior Operatives to drive mutual success and meet budget requirements.

Skills & Experience
• Manufacturing Expertise: Significant experience in manufacturing, ideally with a focus on packing operations.
• Leadership: Proven track record in people management with the ability to set high standards, hold people accountable, and motivate teams.
• Communication Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels of the organisation.
• Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis systems. Able to harness production data to drive improvements.
• Budget Management: Experience managing and delivering on budget targets.
• Analytical & Strategic Thinking: Strong analytical skills with the ability to make informed recommendations based on data. Ability to balance short-term production needs with long-term strategic objectives.
• Project Management: Demonstrated success in project management and driving positive change.
• Safety Qualifications: IOSH or NEBOSH qualifications preferred.
