D R Newitt Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discrimination Policy

Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discrimination Policy

1. Introduction

D R Newitt is committed to promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion in all aspects of our business. We recognise that a diverse workforce strengthens our organisation, and we actively foster an inclusive environment where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect.

This policy is in line with the Equality Act 2010, which protects individuals from discrimination based on protected characteristics, including:

  • Age

  • Disability

  • Gender reassignment

  • Marriage and civil partnership

  • Pregnancy and maternity

  • Race (including ethnic or national origin, nationality)

  • Religion or belief

  • Sex

  • Sexual orientation

Discrimination, harassment, or victimisation based on any of these characteristics is unacceptable and unlawful.

2. Commitment to Equal Opportunities

D R Newitt ensures that:

  • All job applicants and employees are considered solely based on their skills, experience, and ability to perform the role.

  • Recruitment and promotion decisions are made fairly and objectively, ensuring equal access to opportunities.

  • Interview questions are structured and job-related, avoiding discriminatory language.

  • Employees with disabilities receive reasonable adjustments to support them in their roles.

  • Workplace training is provided to ensure all employees understand their responsibilities regarding equality and inclusion.

  • Discrimination, harassment, or bullying will not be tolerated, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken where necessary.

3. Preventing Discrimination & Harassment

D R Newitt strictly prohibits:

  • Direct discrimination – Treating someone less favourably due to a protected characteristic.

  • Indirect discrimination – Applying a policy or rule that disadvantages a group of people with a protected characteristic.

  • Harassment – Unwanted behaviour related to a protected characteristic that violates a person’s dignity or creates a hostile environment.

  • Victimisation – Treating someone unfairly because they have made or supported a complaint about discrimination.

Employees and job applicants who experience discrimination, harassment, or victimisation are encouraged to report concerns confidentially, and all complaints will be handled promptly and fairly.

4. Responsibility & Review

  • Management is responsible for ensuring this policy is upheld in all aspects of recruitment, training, and workplace practices.

  • All employees are expected to comply with this policy and contribute to an inclusive workplace.

  • This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains effective and compliant with UK equality legislation.

At D R Newitt, we believe that if you do not intentionally include, you unintentionally exclude. We are committed to being intentionally diverse in all aspects—ensuring inclusion in gender, sexuality, generation, and ideas.
